Do you brush and floss as much as you recommend?
Definitely! Maybe even more than I should. The one thing I need to improve on is flossing under my retainer, but I do floss every day.

What is your favorite flavor of floss?
I don’t really have one—it’s just whatever is there and available. As long as I remember to do it, that’s what matters!

Electric or manual toothbrush?
Electric! I’ve had a Sonicare since I graduated from dental school, and I love it. It works so well.

Which celebrity has the best smile?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He has a great smile, and his teeth are really white too!

If you could tell patients to stop doing one thing, what would it be?
Chewing ice! It cracks teeth. So many patients come in with broken crowns or fillings because of it, and it’s totally preventable.

What is the best dental advice you’ve ever received?
Floss the teeth you want to keep.

What is the best thing about being a Delta Dental dentist?
I get to see patients from all types of professional fields and different demographics. It’s great to help so many families and see them return over the years.

Any funny stories from the dental chair?
The biggest, toughest-looking guys—tattoos, muscles, the whole thing—sometimes tear up when they see the needle! Meanwhile, I’ll have a four-year-old girl sitting in the chair, calm as can be. It’s always funny to see that contrast.

How would you describe oral health’s impact on your patients’ overall health and well-being?
It’s huge. People who take care of their oral health often take care of their overall health too. There’s a connection—plaque buildup can enter your bloodstream and lead to other health issues, like high blood pressure and heart conditions. It’s all related.

March is National Nutrition Month. What is your favorite tooth-healthy snack and what makes it so good for your smile?
Cheese! It’s low in acid and helps prevent cavities. Sugar-free gum is another great option—it freshens your breath, stimulates saliva and doesn’t have the negative effects of sugary snacks.

What is your favorite dental joke?
What time do you go to see the dentist? 2:30 (Tooth-hurty)!

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three items would you bring?
My kids, an endless supply of food and my oral hygiene kit—gotta have my toothbrush and floss!

Anything else you’d like to add?
I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and I still love it. It’s amazing to see fearful patients come in, have a good experience and realize that the dentist isn’t so bad. When they start coming in regularly, it makes a huge difference. That’s what keeps me passionate about what I do!
