We’d like to introduce you to Delta Dental dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Schmelter of My Time Dental Centers in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Schmelter is a general dentist who treats patients of all ages. What made you decide to become a dentist?
I was an admin at a health care organization in Prescott where I worked with adults with disabilities. I noticed that many of them had poor oral hygiene, so I began flossing for them. Even though I wasn’t a dentist at the time, they called me “Dentist Jeff.” After that experience, I knew I wanted to become a licensed dentist.
What is your specialty/area of interest?
General practice. We also do a lot of sedation dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation and implants.
Do you brush and floss as much as you recommend?
Yes!
What is your favorite flavor toothpaste?
Spearmint.
Electric or manual toothbrush (for yourself and recommended for patients)?
Electric for both myself and my patients. It helps prevent recession defects and sensitivity. It is also proven to decrease plaque.

Bradley Cooper.
If you could tell patients to stop doing one thing, what would it be?
Don’t avoid the dentist. Assuming that since you have no pain, everything is fine will get you into trouble.

Being a dentist in general is great, so it’s a privilege to be contracted with Delta Dental.
