Do you brush and floss as much as you recommend?
I actually do brush and floss as much as I recommend. We tell our patients to brush twice a day and floss daily.
What is your favorite flavor floss?
I’m an original guy, so I’ll go with mint.
Electric or manual toothbrush?
I’m a little bit old school…I like a manual toothbrush. I always tell my patients whichever toothbrush excites you and makes you want to brush your teeth, that’s the one you should use. As long as a toothbrush goes in your mouth and you brush your teeth twice a day, I’m thrilled!
Which celebrity has the best smile?
That’s a tough one! Halle Berry has a beautiful smile. I think some of the best smiles are the ones that are healthy and authentic—real teeth that have tiny imperfections.
If you could tell patients to stop doing one thing, what would it be?
One of the things that I’m big on is sugar nutrition counseling, I think if we get the nutrition right, we help patients come in here who maybe have a lot of dental problems get their work done and then the work lasts if they’re monitoring their sugar intake.
What is the best dental advice you’ve ever received?
No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. If your patients know that you care about them, they’re going to listen to you. You can be the smartest guy in the world, but if you don’t care about the patient, they can smell it a mile away. If you’re not honest with them, they’re going to know it, but when they know you care about them, they open right up to you and they’re willing to work with you and form that relationship.
What is the best thing about being a Delta Dental dentist?
I think it’s the patients. That’s really why we’re in this business—we enjoy working with patients and helping them navigate their dental care. It’s about helping people understand dentistry, whether it’s figuring out if they can afford it, finding a place they can visit regularly or managing their costs while getting the care they need.
How would you describe oral health’s impact on your patients’ overall health and well-being?
I think the biggest aspect of oral health isn’t just about what I do with my hands or the work I do in people’s mouths. It’s really about encouraging people to eat properly and avoid excess sugar in their diets. When we get that part right, oral health naturally improves and the overall health of the body follows.
If you were stuck on a desert island, what three items would you bring?
My Bible, my cellphone and some sugar-free gum!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I really appreciate working with Delta Dental of Arizona and getting to know the patients who come to see me. It’s truly an honor to treat them and be part of their care. One thing I especially value about Delta Dental of Arizona is how straightforward the company is. That reliability makes it easy to work with them, and that’s not something you find everywhere.
