Dentist Spotlight: Dr. Diana Batoon

Dr. Diana Batoon of Bonita Dental

We’d like to introduce you to Delta Dental dentist, Dr. Diana Batoon of Bonita Dental in Scottsdale. Bonita Dental offers patients a wide array of services from fillings and extractions to Invisalign® and teeth whitening.

What made you decide to become a dentist?

When I was in my junior year of college, my father was dying of cancer. I had always wanted a career in health care, but during this time I realized that I did not want anyone dying on my watch. That’s when I decided to become a dentist.

What is your specialty/area of interest?

Interceptive orthodontics, dental sleep medicine and TMJ.

Do you brush and floss as much as you recommend?

Yes! And I use a water pick.

What is your favorite flavor toothpaste?

I like mint. I don’t like any flavors that are too sweet.

Electric or manual toothbrush?

I use a Sonicare for myself because it is so effective. I’m not partial to electric or manual, I just want my patients to use what works for them and brush at least twice a day!

Which celebrity has the best smile?

Faith Hill has a great smile.

If you could tell patients to stop doing one thing, what would it be?

Stop eating sugar! It can be addictive and it can potentially cause inflammatory disease. The risks outweigh the benefits.

What is the best dental advice you’ve ever received?

Visit your dentist at least twice a year. And drink lots of water. It’s important to hydrate!

What is the best thing about being a Delta Dental dentist?

The best thing about being a Delta Dental dentist is the large, diverse network of patients.

Any funny stories from the dental chair?

A lot of children treat the dental chair like it’s a jungle gym and climb all over it.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three items would you bring?

  1. Water
  2. A blanket
  3. My husband

Anything else you’d like to add?

Snoring and mouth breathing are not healthy traits. If you suffer from either of these, consult with a dentist trained in sleep medicine to screen for possible sleep issues.

Cassie Calvert
Cassie Calvert is the marketing and communications manager at Delta Dental of Arizona (DDAZ). Originally a Midwesterner from Ohio, Cassie has settled into desert life in the Grand Canyon state. In her spare time, she can be found exploring new hiking trails with her German Shepherd, Rocky, or training for her next half-marathon. She is grateful to have found her way to DDAZ and loves supporting the mission and vision of the company. Cassie was lucky enough to not only have braces as a child, but to also wear Invisalign for several years as an adult, so her passion for a healthy smile goes well beyond her workplace role.
